PFAS TESTING AND ANALYSIS

PFAS are a diverse group of compounds resistant to heat, water, and oil. For decades, PFAS compounds have been used in hundreds of industrial applications and consumer products including carpeting, apparel, upholstery, food paper wrappings, fire-fighting foams, and metal plating. PFAS is referred to as the “forever chemical” as its contaminants can linger for decades.

SOURCES OF PFAS CONTAMINATION

PFAS chemicals are found in water, soil, waste, air, consumer products, and more. Pace PFAS experts have experience working on a variety of PFAS sampling and testing projects in these areas and others:

PFAS TEST METHODS

Through multiple PFAS lab locations, Pace offers DoD- and EPA-approved test methods and others including TOP (Total Oxidizable Precursor) Assay and TOF (Total Organic Fluorine). The latter are used for the detection of thousands of additional CAS-registered PFAS compounds than the approximately 40 detected through standard PFAS analyses.

Pace Analytical True-TOF™ Method

Pace TrueTOF is a method used to quantify the total organofluorine in a sample without extraction to a carbon media. With TrueTOF, we quantitate the total fluorine content and the total inorganic fluorine content using the same equipment. The subtraction of the two equals the total organofluorine. Without the need for extraction, there is no need to be concerned about unrecovered compounds, so TrueTOF can be a more reliable test than the AOF method. TrueTOF is also a low volume test that only requires 10 ml of liquid matrix for easier sampling and with less waste. Read more about True-TOF™.

PFAS TESTING REGULATIONS

In advance of EPA-issued PFAS regulations, many states and military bases have set their own PFAS testing and reporting requirements. And, in the wake of some recent -and staggering – financial settlements, many states are reducing reporting limits for industry and manufacturers. Our PFAS Regulations page offers several resources for you to learn more.
