Biota analysis is the determination of the levels of accumulation of toxic substances in plant and animal tissues. The determination of toxic residues in organisms populating a contaminated area is an important part of the ecological risk assessment process. Biological samples may be an indicator of contamination that is affecting the food chain and possibly humans.
With more than 20 years of experience in the analysis of biological tissues, we routinely analyze fish, amphibians, birds, mammals and plants for environmental contaminants. Parameters include Metals, PCB Aroclors, PCB congeners, Dioxin/Furans, Organochlorine Pesticides and other organics.
The analysis of tissues is significantly more challenging than the analysis of water or soil. We have specific methodologies for biota analysis, which ensure the accurate measurement of the analytes of concern. These capabilities, specifically developed in biological matrices, separate us from the typical soil/water labs. We also offer method development for non-standard, site-specific substances.
